Recently, China employment market Index, which is also called CIER-Index from China Institute for Employment Research (CIER) of School of Labor and Human Resources at RUC, was referenced by international famous investment bank Morgan Stanley in its latest report about Chinese economics. the CIER-Index was used for analyzing Chinese employment situation. There is a thanks letter from Morgan Stanley for CIER’s birth and they said it was highly appreciated by Capital markets and investors, given its expression on the true state of the labor market in China.

CIER-Index is compiled by the China Institute for Employment Research (CIER). CIER designed this index based on data from ZhaoPin.com and Suzhou Industrial Park under a strong support from related department of government. The index is used to reflect the ratio of job seekers number to that of vacancy in the labor market, and then the employment index system. This CIER-Index was first published by the CIER in Seminar on Labor Market Analysis and Prospect of China on 15th January, 2011.

CIER - index is used to reflect the tightness of labor market, the calculation method is: CIER Index = Amount of Applications in Job Marketing / Needs of Recruitment in the Market. The larger the CIER-Index is, the more the competitors in some vacant posts are, and the greater the intensity of labor market is. The CIER began to follow short-term changes in labor market by publishing this kind of index from the first quarter of 2009.

After two years, total nine consecutive quarters analysis and verification, the CIER concluded that CIER-Index has three advantages including timely , sensitive and high degree of macro-soundness, which sensitively reflect changes in the supply and demand in the labor market in China. This index not only highly matches with data published by government, but also has a number of advantages such as high sensitivity and high warning levels.
