Professor Zeng Xiangquan visited the University of Montreal

At the invitation of Dean Jean Charest, University of Montreal’s School of Industrial Relations, Professor Zeng Xiangquan, Director of CIER and Dean of Renmin University’ School of Labor Relations and Human Resource, visited the University of Montreal from 28th to 29th April 2011.
 
In the afternoon of 28th April 2011, Prof. Zeng visited the Inter-University Research Centre on Globalization and Work (CRIMT), University of Montreal. The Centre is the world’s leading centre on labor relations. Prof. Zeng held an informal meeting with Professor Gregor Murray, the Head of the CRIMT, as well as research fellows, and postgraduate students.
 
In the morning of 29th April, Prof. Zeng visited the School of Industrial Relations, University of Montreal. After meeting with some professors, Prof. Zeng signed the school cooperation agreement with Dean Charest. This agreement aims to further the collaborative efforts in three areas: creating a student exchange program, exchanging faculty members, as well as developing joint research projects.
 
Prof. Zeng delivered a speech in English on China’s Labor Market at the University of Montreal on the 29th of April 2011. Dean Charest chaired the conference, which was attended by professors and students from the University of Montreal’s School of Industrial Relations, Business School, CRIMT, Quebec University’s Department of Politics Science, as well as the Quebec local labor department, trade unions and human resource consulting groups.
 
Prof. Zeng’s speech focused on creating China’s new advantages of human resources—challenges and resolutions in China’s labor market. First, Prof. Zeng introduced some fundamental changes in China’s labor market in the past few years, indicating that China’s labor market has been confronted with serious challenges. Prof. Zeng then made judgments on the status quo of China’s labor market via his analysis of CIER Competition Index. Prof. Zeng concluded by addressing the policy orientation of China’s government, as well as recommending countermeasures to the companies.
 
The University of Montreal, founded in 1878, is one of the world’s top universities.  With over 50,000 students from all over the world, the University of Montreal is the largest French-speaking university in the world. The University of Montreal’s School of Industrial Relations is one of the oldest institutions of labor relations, with a history of 65 years, and now one of foremost schools in the field of labor relations.
