“The Labor market of China: Challenges and Countermeasures, the third CIER/IZA Academic Seminar on Labor Economics” co-sponsored by CIER and IZA was held successfully in YIfu Building of Renmin University of China on September17 to September18.
The seminar invited not only officials of National Development and Reform Committee and Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, but also experts and scholars from colleges and universities and scientific research institutes including Goteborg University of Sweden, Bologna University of Italy, IZA of Germany, Bonn University of Germany, Economic and Scientific Association of France, Renmin University of China, Peking University, Beijing Normal University, Xiamen University and Academy of Social Sciences of Beijing.
Zeng Xiangquan, dean of School of Labor and Human Resources of RUC, also the director of CIER, attended the seminar with Klaus F. Zimmermann, professor of Bonn University of Germany,also the director of IZA. They made a speech about the background of the conference, the theme to be discussed and the duplex cooperation. Professor Yang Weiguo, vice chief of Scientific Research Bureau of RUC and CIER, hosted the meeting.
In the theme speech in the morning of September 17, professor Zeng Xiangquan began with some current hotspot issues such as”Rural Laborer Barren”, ”Jumping Incidents of Foxconn”, ”Honda Strike” and ”Salary-rising Tide”, thoroughly analyzed the present urgent issues faced by labor force market of China including ”Have the supply and demand relation of the labor force market of China changed? Is the low-salary era predicted to end? Have the strength contrast between the labor and the capital changed?” and he also gave homologous policy advices.
While professor Zimmermann gave some valuable suggestions to the development of labor force market of China in the “12th Five-Year Plan” of China in a Comparison angle between China and Germany. Then, the attended officials, experts and scholars had an embedded discussion on the challenges and problems faced by labor force market of China, the development prospect and corresponding counter-plans.
The special subject discussion lasted from the afternoon of September17 to September 18. The participants had an embedded discussion on the rural labor force market of China, business-establishing, income inequality, employment trends, the personnel well-being and so on.
The seminar sponsored by the CIER is the third conference following the preceding two “CIER/IZA Academic Seminar on Labor Economics” one of which was held in RUC in 2009 and the other was held in Bonn University of Germany in 2010. As the sponsors, School of Labor and Human Resources of RUC and the CIER see the seminar as the key step to fulfill the strategy that means to improve the RUC’s international level. It enlarged the academic influence of School of Labor and Human Resources in its field by organizing and attending the forum, encouraging its teachers to issue English-written reports and establishing an international academic exchange terrace on labor economics. Professor Zhao Zhong, Sun Jianmin and Cheng Yanyuan, researcher Ding Dajian, teacher Geng Lin, and some researchers such as Huang Wei, Ge Yuhao, Wu qiang, Yang Yumei all attended the seminar, published research outputs and hosted each special subject discussion or gave comments of themselves.
The fourth CIER/IZA Academic Seminar on Labor Economics will be held in Bonn University of Germany in 2012. |
