The Tenth China Forum on the Humanities and Social Sciences open in RUC

The Tenth China Forum on Humanities and Social Sciences was opened in Yifu Hall, Renmin University of China in the morning of June 12, 2010. 125 experts and scholars from 22 countries, famous domestic experts and scholars in the field of labor science, and directors or principals of government agencies involved launched the seminar on the theme of Employment, Livelihood and Sustainable Development. Renmin University of China issued the report of China Employment Strategy Report from 2008 to 2010: China Employment Abilities Enhancement in Double-transformation Background in the Forum. 
 
Zhang Xiaojian, vice minister of Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, James Heckman, the professor of University of Chicago, America and the recipient of Nobel Prize for Economics in 2000, Pro. Peter Heinicke, the former director of Institute of Climate, Energy and Environment in Wuppertal, Germany, and Cheng Tianquan, the secretary of CPC Committee of Renmin University of China attended the opening ceremony, which was presided over by Feng Huiling, the vice president of Renmin University of China. Secretary Cheng Tianquan made a speech about the purport and the preparation of the Forum. 
 
In the following appointment ceremony, James Heckman, the professor of University of Chicago, America and the recipient of Nobel Prize for Economics in 2000, and Zhang Xiaojian, vice minister of Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security were recruited as emeritus professor and adjunct professor of Renmin University of China respectively. Secretary Cheng Tianquan issued the letters of appointment to them and extended his congratulations. 
 
Zhang Xiaojian made a keynote presentation about China Positive Employment Policy and its Results, which analyzed the three kinds of pressure on employment field in China, and introduced the employment policies the government implemented in seven respects in the five-year period from 2003 to 2008 and its effectiveness into details.
 
In the main report stage, Pro. James Heckman and Pro. Peter Heinicke made a theme presentation on “Impacts of Human Capital Investment in Childhood on Employment Ability in Adulthood” and “Resources, Effectiveness and Employment” respectively, and they amplified problems of employment, livelihood and development from different perspectives. Pro. Zeng Xiangquan, Director of CIER and SLHR issued the report of China Employment Strategy Report from 2008 to 2010: China Employment Abilities Enhancement in Double-transformation Background in the main Forum. Aiming at current “double transformation” challenges of “regime transformation and structure transformation”, the report identified that, in order to maintain sustainable economic growth when our country no longer faced with the shortage of material capital, we have to pay attention to labors’ employment abilities, including the improvement of employability. The report also proposed specific training suggestions, according to the characteristics of different crowds.
 
This Forum, presented by Institute of Labor and Human Resources last for two days, including a main forum, two peculiarity forums and four plenary forums. The two peculiarity forums, including Global Labor Science Director Forum and International Areas, Location Work and Labor Development Forum, are the promotion and deepening of the Forum theme. The four plenary forums are Labor Economic Plenary Forum, whose theme was Population, Employment and Labor Market; Human Resources Plenary Forum, whose theme was Ethnic Culture, Organizational Culture and Human Resource Management; Social Security Plenary Forum, whose theme was China Social Security Regime; and Labor Relations Plenary Forum, whose theme was Labor Relations’ Challenges in Economic Crisis.
 
In the period of the Forum, nearly thirty directors of Institute of Labor Sciences published Beijing Declaration together, and they made promises to let the Global Labor Science Director Forum be a long-term, regular forum to put forward the broad cooperation and sustained communication in the field of labor science from country to country.
 
Hofstede Gerard Hendrik, the emeritus professor of Maastricht University, the professor of Economics Research Center of Tilburg University, Netherlands, and international management scholar; William Brown, the president of Department of Social Sciences and Humanities and the director of Darwin College, University of Cambridge, England; Richard Freeman, the professor of Department of Economics, University of Harvard, America; Jorma Sipila, the former president of University of Tampere, the professor of Department of Social Policy and Social Work, Finland and many other scholars that enjoy great popularity in study fields, would make analysis and interpretation in different perspectives, provided new analysis frameworks and the ways of  problem solving in the field of labor science  under the circumstance of  globalization, internationalization and diversification.
 
This Forum also set up College Students Employment Forum for doctoral students, master students and undergraduates in the field of labor sciences, and invited students in this field to talk over problems such as job-seeking, employment and start an undertaking for college students.
